Listing Spotlight: Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo (DVD, 1984, Widescreen)

Film Info/Synopsis:

“Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo,” released in 1984, is a cult classic dance film directed by Sam Firstenberg. The plot centers around a group of dancers aiming to save their community center, “Miracles,” from demolition by a wealthy developer. Starring Lucinda Dickey, Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones, and Michael “Boogaloo Shrimp” Chambers, the film showcases their energetic dance routines and attempts to raise funds through a benefit concert. Despite its mixed critical reception upon release, the film’s catchy soundtrack and lively dance sequences have solidified its status as a beloved cult classic, celebrated for its embodiment of 1980s pop culture and the burgeoning hip hop and breakdancing scene.

With a reported budget of around $2.2 million, “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo” grossed approximately $15.1 million domestically and $30.1 million worldwide. While the film had a limited theatrical release, it managed to turn a profit at the box office, becoming a moderate success considering its niche appeal. Despite its initial reception, the film has since gained a dedicated following and is often referenced for its iconic “dancing on the ceiling” scene and the meme-worthy subtitle “Electric Boogaloo.” The success of “Breakin’ 2” helped popularize breakdancing and hip hop culture in mainstream media, leaving a lasting impact on the world of dance movies and 1980s pop culture as a whole.

Lew’s 2 cents:

Not as good as the first, yet still a classic film that everyone who grew up with is fond of, Breakin’ 2 is most remembered for it’s rotating set scene. It’s found it’s place as a Cannon cult classic and is in demand, as it’s one of my best sellers. I’m listing the few I have left as they sell, so I’ll try to keep this page up-to-date with the link to the most current listing until they’re gone.
